You are responsible for keeping everything running smoothly

Team work is key: In operating theaters, it is crucial that nursing staff, our surgical technologists and anesthesiologist assistants and our doctors all work together smoothly, as well as with any other colleagues involved. For this to be the case, we have to take an interdisciplinary and forward-looking approach, and appreciate the efforts of others. In particular in critical situations, it is necessary that we act capably, quickly, and flexibly. Our patients are at the center of all our efforts. Our nursing care is always directed towards ensuring the safety of patient the whole time they are in our operating theater. We use safety checklists approved by the WHO, specialty-specific operation standards and procedural guidelines. We draw these up ourselves, evaluate them as part of an ongoing process and amend them to take any issues that may arise into account. We keep an electronic record of all activities and procedures in our documentation system. Your main tasks in this area of work include taking care of the instruments and assisting during surgical procedures. You are also responsible for operating the cutting-edge technology in our operating theaters correctly, as well as for preparing all instruments and equipment before surgical procedures and ensuring everything is replaced and returned to the correct place or settings afterwards. Working in this area is physically and mentally stretching. It requires a high degree of flexibility, responsibility, professionalism and expertise.

You should join one of our surgical teams if you are interested in and think you would enjoy taking on the responsibility for working closely with patients in a highly technical interdisciplinary area.

You can choose to complete specialist training in “surgical nursing (DKG)”.

Taking on responsibility

You can also specialize in the areas of hygiene, emergency training, the Medical Devices Act, or ethics or assume more managerial responsibility by acting as an instructor or getting involved in shift coordination or as a group leader, a deputy ward manager or a ward manager or as the manager of a specialist department.

What can we offer you?

In addition to your tariff-based pay, we offer an operational allowance of 45 euros* and a dynamic university allowance of 143.92 euros*. Depending on your qualifications and the profile of the tasks you are responsible for, you may also be eligible for further allowances. As a member of our nursing staff, you also profit from these benefits, and working at Uniklinikum Erlangen naturally offers a number of other benefits besides.

Main operating theater

Operations from a wide range of different disciplines are carried out in the main operating theater at Universitätsklinikum Erlangen. Areas covered range from general and visceral surgery, to vascular surgery, plastic and hand surgery, cardiac surgery, pediatric surgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, trauma surgery, urology and thoracic surgery.
