On our general wards you are responsible for a wide range of different tasks and will come across patients with a broad range of conditions. There is never a dull moment and the differences between our various areas are what makes your daily work so varied. At Uniklinikum Erlangen you will find the perfect working environment where you can feel at home and continue to acquire new skills. At our university hospital, we work in accordance with the latest nursing and medical findings, with the aim of providing the best possible treatment for our patients. That is what motivates us at work every day.

On our general wards, you are generally responsible for providing nursing care based on the nursing process for all stages up to and including end-of-life care. This involves providing basic care and monitoring the patient, as well as advising patients, their relatives or other points of contact on matters concerning nursing. You also assist with diagnostic and therapeutic measures and take on medical tasks delegated to you. Finally, you are expected to take care of administrative tasks connected to admissions, transfers, making appointments and discharging patients.

When is the best time to start working on one of our general wards?

Whether straight after completing your exams or with several years of work experience under your belt: you’re always very welcome here! In addition to subject expertise, we expect our staff to have empathy, understanding and good communication skills. We have a standard onboarding concept in our wards during which we prepare you for your future tasks and introduce you to them step by step over a fixed time period. During the first few weeks, a mentor will show you the ropes and introduce you to our organization and how we work, giving you the confidence you need.

Your options for professional development on our general wards

At UKER we place considerable emphasis on your qualifications and offer a professional development program with a wide range of courses for professional and personal development at our Academy for Health Care and Nursing Professions. Or you might find a new field of work at one of the many other areas within Uniklinikum Erlangen.

Taking on responsibility

You can also choose to specialize in areas such as occupational safety, hygiene, ethics, the Medical Devices Act, prophylactic measures against bedsores, or in pain and wound management.

We are always pleased if you gain further qualifications to become a nursing instructor and pass on your newly acquired knowledge to others. Or if you get involved in our subject-related working groups in which we explore ways of making our processes sustainable and fit for the future. If you would like to assume a more managerial role, you can look to become a shift coordinator, a ward manager or their deputy.

What can we offer you?

In addition to your tariff-based pay, we offer a dynamic university allowance of 143.92 euros*. Depending on your qualifications and the profile of the tasks you are responsible for, you may also be eligible for further allowances.
