The intensive care wards at the department of otorhinolaryngology

Our main focus

On our intensive care ward we care for patients after major head or neck surgery as well as patients with a long history of illness or increased risk factors. We also care for people who require ventilation due to a swelling in the upper respiratory tract. Our patients have undergone surgery following an abscess or tumor and most have had a tracheostomy after their surgery.

“We are a small intensive care ward with a small team, where quality counts more than quantity. This constellation has some advantages, but some disadvantages as well. We are a very close-knit team, and work closely together with a high degree of expertise, which requires each and every one of us to work independently and take responsibility for our actions. We take our time to introduce anyone new to work in intensive care to their new area of work one step at a time, and are pleased if they decide to stay with us in the long term. “

Florian März, ward manager

What to expect as a member of the nursing staff on our intensive care ward

We are a small unit with an experienced team. On our intensive care ward we almost feel like a family, and our team is the perfect place for anyone starting out into intensive care, also thanks to the compact nature of our area of specialization. We take a lot of time to help you settle in until you are in a position to work independently and responsibly in a team of two on our ward. Our team is also responsible for monitoring patients in the recovery room.

We have the expertise for invasive ventilation treatments and continuous cardiovascular monitoring, as well as airway management following a tracheostomy.

We are one of the few departments of otorhinolaryngology in Germany to have a specialized intensive care ward managed by otorhinolaryngology physicians. Our intensive care ward in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology is permanently in contact with all the other intensive care wards throughout the hospital.
