Our doctors

As a doctor at UKER you can rest assured that you will always be working with the latest scientific findings that are applied directly to patient care. The clinics, independent departments and institutes at UKER offer a wide variety of areas where you can choose to work and complete your medical or specialist training.

Final year (clinical rotation)

You can complete all three rotations of your practical year at Uniklinikum Erlangen. For weekly working hours of 40 hours you receive a monthly payment of 500 euros (gross payment for a full-time position, as of December 2022). Catering is available in our staff restaurant the “Palmeria” or in one of the seven cafeterias belonging to Uniklinikum Erlangen: in the old university hospital, in the building housing the wards of the Surgical Center, in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, in the Center for Internal Medicine, in the Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, in the Department of Neurology and in the Translational Research Center.

Specialist training for physicians

Our Uniklinikum Erlangen is a large qualified training center where you can complete training as a doctor or dentist. Your training is planned by the heads of our clinics, independent departments and institutes according to what they are entitled to train. Speciality training

After completing training as a specialist, you can choose to specialize further in certain specific areas (section B in the Regulation on professional development) or complete additional training leading to a further qualification (section C in the Regulation on professional development).

As a university hospital, we offer you the option of further specialization according to your individual aptitude and our operational requirements. Your initial points of contact are the heads of our clinics, independent departments and institutes.

Opportunities for teaching

If you enjoy training students and would like to take on a more active role, this is another area you can choose to pursue further with us. You can acquire the skills you need to provide high-quality teaching in medicine by completing the Bavarian universities’ certificate in university-level teaching (Zertifikat Hochschullehre der Bayerischen Universitäten).

Interdisciplinary research environment

University medicine in Erlangen is characterized by five key research priorities. The success of translational research hinges on close interdisciplinary links between basic subjects and clinical subjects. Our interdisciplinary collaborative projects make a major contribution to our cutting-edge medicine.

The Faculty of Medicine at FAU also plays a major part in the university’s research focus areas of Molecular Life Science and Medicine, Medical Engineering and Optics and Optical Technologies. Research consortia in these areas involve close collaboration with institutions based in the Faculty of Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering.
