Who we are:

PhD Position in Bioinformatics – Ultrasound Localization Microscopy in Kidney Disease
Expererienced in medical imaging analysis and keen to transfer your knowledge into meaningful clinical projects? We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate with a strong background in bioinformatics to join our interdisciplinary research team. The position is part of a funded project focused on the application of Ultrasound Localization Microscopy (ULM) in the study of kidney diseases.
Project Description
This project aims to develop novel imaging biomarkers for the diagnosis and characterization of kidney diseases through the analysis of super-resolution microvascular imaging data. The successful candidate will play a central role in the integration and analysis of ULM datasets acquired from pediatric and adult patients with kidney disease. The access to a high amount of unique clinical datasets offers a highly translational research environment.

Die Aufgaben

  • Bioinformatic quantitative analysis of ULM imaging data and data integration across ages and diseases
  • Further development and implementation of data analysis pipeline, preferably in MATLAB (other programming languages are also possible)
  • Identification and validation of imaging biomarkers across disease/pathology groups
  • Collaboration with clinical and technical teams
  • Independent literature research and contribution to publications
  • Das Know-how dafür

  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering or a related field
  • Proven experience in the analysis of complex biomedical or imaging datasets
  • Proficiency in MATLAB (experience with other languages such as Python or R is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and to take initiative
  • High motivation to contribute to translational research and scientific advancement
  • Das bieten wir:

    • Fully funded PhD position (E13, 65%) within an innovative and collaborative research environment
    • Highly-motivated, young and interdisciplinary team (medical doctors/clinicians, medical engineers, industrial engineers, medical students and basic science researchers) with a great team spirit
    • Extensive experience in the lab in the conduction of complex translational imaging studies in adult and pediatric patients
    • Already established bioinformatical pipeline for ULM imaging analysis in kidney disease, which should be further developed within the project
    • Access to rare and uniquely comprehensive clinical datasets, some of which are being gathered for the first time on a global scale
    • Access to unique clinical imaging datasets from rare kidney diseases
    • Spacious lab space with strong bioinformatical infrastructure and equipement
    • State-of-the-art ultrasound technology and computational infrastructure
    • Opportunities for professional development and scientific publishing
    • The chance to contribute to the future of kidney disease diagnostics
