Das sind wir:
The Hector-Center for Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, Medical Clinic 1, conducts clinical and experimental research in the fields of cancer, obesity, food intolerances, and microbiota. Our translational research projects aim to better understand disease mechanisms and ultimately improve patient care and therapeutic strategies.
A major focus of our research is cancer cachexia, a complex metabolic syndrome that significantly contributes to loss of skeletal muscle and adipose tissue, impaired physical function, reduced quality of life, and poor clinical outcomes in patients with cancer.
Within this research area, we investigate the interactions between cancer cells, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue, and immune cells, with a particular focus on the molecular and immunological mechanisms underlying cancer-associated tissue wasting.
Die Aufgaben
Depending on the specific research focus, the work will involve:
- in vitro studies with cancer and muscle cells as well as immune cell models and analysis of tissue samples
- contribution to in vivo studies with mice
- preparation of scientific manuscripts and the PhD thesis

- solid knowledge of cellular and molecular biology
- practical experience with cell culture and molecular biology techniques
- ability to work independently, systematically, and reliably
- strong scientific curiosity and willingness to develop new experimental approaches
- ability to analyze and critically interpret scientific data
- excellent communication and teamwork skills
- good written and spoken English
Zusätzlich von Vorteil
- experience with cancer, skeletal muscle, adipocyte, or immune cell models
- experience with molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, Western blotting, immunofluorescence, or flow cytometry
- FELASA B certificate is advantageous but not mandatory
