The Department of Orthodontics and Orofacial Orthopedics at FAU is currently looking for a highly motivated doctoral researcher (full-time, 100%) in the field of artificial intelligence for dental image analysis.
As a doctoral candidate, you will join a multidisciplinary research team working at the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, Medical Image Analysis, and Orthodontics. Your research will focus on developing advanced deep learning and machine learning models for the automated analysis of dental and orofacial images/data including MRIs, radiographs, photographs, etc., enabling improved diagnosis and treatment planning in orthodontics and dentistry.
Tasks:
- Conducting cutting-edge research in AI-driven dental image analysis, particularly in segmentation, landmark detection, reconstruction, and predictive modeling, etc.
- Developing and optimizing deep learning and computer vision algorithms for automated assessment of dental and orofacial structures.
- Collaborating with experts in orthodontics, radiology, and AI to translate research findings into clinically useful applications.
- Publishing peer-reviewed papers in high-impact journals and presenting findings at international conferences.
- Assisting in teaching activities and mentoring Bachelor’s/Master’s students in related research areas.

Know-How:
- A Master’s degree (or expected completion soon) in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Biomedical Engineering, Computational Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills, particularly in Python (experience with frameworks such as PyTorch is a plus).
- A background in machine learning, deep learning and medical image analysis is highly preferred.
- A research-oriented attitude with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated experience through publications is considered an advantage.
- Strong English communication skills, both written and spoken.
- Highly motivated, creative, and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
