Das sind wir:
The Research Training Group (RTG; Graduiertenkolleg, GRK) 2740 "ImmunoMicroTope", which has started in January 2022, is a research consortium funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation). It is run by 15 outstanding research group leaders located in Erlangen, Regensburg and Cologne. The RTG 2740 focuses on the in situ analysis of the tissue microenvironment, the micromilieu factors and the metabolites that determine the immune response against bacterial, parasitic and fungal pathogens. The overarching goal of the consortium is the characterization of the complex "immunomicrotope" during infections (Bogdan et al., Trends in Parasitology Sep. 2024, in press).
Your tasks:
In previous studies, Prof. Bogdan's group has shown that hyperexpression of arginase 1 (Arg1) is responsible for the non-healing course of cutaneous leishmaniasis, a chronic infection caused by the protozoan parasite Leishmania. Myeloid cells co-expressing Arg1 and inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS2) form a replicative niche for Leishmania parasites. In recent analyses, the availability of L-arginine at the site of skin infection has been found to be crucial for the development of a protective anti-Leishmania immune response and the healing of skin lesions.
The current project aims to elucidate the molecular effects of L-arginine on the transcriptome, metabolome and function of various immune and mesenchymal cells as well as the skin microbiota during cutaneous leishmaniasis.
